Our fight to Save our Club goes on.... and we would like to remind our supporters that written objections to the planning proposal, which if granted result in the building of a car park where our dinghy storage compound is currently situated, closes on Friday 16th October (this week). Go to https://www.ashfield.gov.uk/planning-building-control/planning-applications/search-planning-applications/view-or-comment-on-a-planning-application/comment-on-a-planning-application/ The reference for the application is V/2020/0571 and the location is Kingsmill Reservoir, Sherwood Way South We may soon end up having our dinghy compound taken away for “Pay and Display” car parking if the Ashfield District Council have their way, threatening the future viability of the sailing club. We have been here as a non profit volunteer organisation for over 60 years, run by local residents for local residents. A family of two adults and however many kids can sail with us for the year for £100. No one here earns anything, all the work we do with local kids and adults is delivered by volunteers. Once again we need you all to help us get that community support behind us again.
We are located at Kings Mill Reservoir just off the A38 - A617 Junction between Mansfield and Sutton In Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Kings Mill Reservoir, which is also a nature reserve, is an excellent small sailing water with nine marks allowing for a variety of courses for all conditions.
Whilst the current Coronavirus is still a potent threat to life, even though relaxations are now in place enough to allow resumption of Casual Sailing, we have to restrict activities in according with our Risk Assessments, which can be viewed by clicking the COVID-19 header above
Our normal sailing programme includes regular sessions for newbies who’ve never sailed before to try sailing, by crewing a double handed boat with an experienced club member. From there, there is the opportunity to get trained and qualified to sail through our RYA Accredited Training Courses. We unfortunately have had to suspend these sessions currently due to COVID-19 Restrictions.
