Sutton-in-Ashfield Sailing Club is committed to helping the local community discover and enjoy the thrill of sailing, but is currently suspended due to COVID-19 Restrictions.
Our annual RYA “DISCOVER SAILING” Open Day has been re-scheduled for Sunday 25th July 2021, when it is now expected that we will finally move to Step 4 of the Government Roadmap and freedom from meeting restrictions.
Everyone is welcome just to turn up on the day.
We have scheduled an exciting programme of “Discover Sailing” days on a monthly basis across the warmer part of the year where the public can try sailing, normally the first Sunday of every month.
Those interested can book an theory induction and a one hour session of informal sailing on the water with an experienced club member, for a small charge of £15 for up to 3 family members in a session. The number of available sessions are limited due to our current Covid Risk Assessments regarding club boat usage by more than one family group in a day, so we recommend booking early.
Whilst trying sailing at our RYA Annual Open Day is totally free, and in the main we use a large & very stable Coble Dinghy with groups of 4-6 people and a competent instructor, the “monthly” days give an opportunity for anyone interested to try sailing in one of our regular club sailing boats, with personal attention from one of our more experienced sailing members.
The individual monthly sessions run from 1pm to 3pm on the designated Sunday afternoons, and we do charge for them as follows :-
Session for up to three persons in a family group – £15 for an onshore theory induction and 1 hour’s sailing.
The price paid will be discounted against payment for any subsequent application for club membership
Sailing will take place in the club’s training boats, primarily RS Visions and GP14s, large double handers that are well suited to showing newbies the joys of sailing.
Safety equipment such as buoyancy aids will be provided, but sailing is a watersport so please come prepared to get wet with at least a change of clothing and a towel.
Just call in at the club any Sunday afternoon after 2pm and book your place for the next Sunday Session, email our General Secretary, or phone the club on 01623 363318 on a Sunday afternoon or Wednesday evening prior to the scheduled days.
